Google's OpenSocial initiative will be successful.

Essay and/or background: OpenSocial lets developers write their social network applications once adhering to one API and have it work on all social networks supporting the API. Right now, MySpace, Friendster, LinkedIn, Orkut (of course), and several others support it.
