well, it's hard to say Edwards is not part of the establishment, having been the V.P. nominee in the last cycle. His rhetoric is populist but his votes in the Senate were not.
His Senate record reflects a first-term Democratic Senator from a decidedly red state. His populism pre-dates that, and was in fact the basis of his Senate campaign vs. Helms.
"outside Wash."what does that mean? he's backed from the old establishment. is he worried that if he waited to build his record, this ambiguous label would no longer apply?
